On June 22, 2016, the 12th SYSU Clinical Research Salon was held in the Reception Room on North Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), attracting around 30 doctors, teachers as well as medical students from the University and its affiliated hospitals. Hosted by Prof. Yang Dongjie from The First Affiliated Hospital, the Salon invited Dr. Xie Chan from The Third Affiliated Hospital.

Dr. Xie is the attending physician of the Infectious Disease Department of The Third Affiliated Hospital and her main research area is hepatopathy related to hepatitis B. Dr. Xie has rich experiences in basic research and clinical research. She has received more than 10 funding supports different foundations such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). In 2013 and 2014, Dr. Xie was sent to the Johns Hopkins University for a one year study of clinical research practices. In the salon, Dr. Xie shared her precious experience by demonstrating different stages of one of her research projects supported by the 5010 funding. Her impressive sharing aroused heated discussions in areas such as the determination of targeted patients, the practical problems occurred in Radom Method, sources of research needed drugs, detailed plan of the statistical analysis, etc. It is worth noting that, the salon helps clinical researchers not only to understand more about the importance of clinical researches but also the possible problems they may face in their future practice of clinical researches.

After the Salon, visiting scholars cultivated by the SYSU-JHU Collaboration Program held a working meeting, exchanging ideas about updating the organization form of the Salon. At the end of the meeting, they reached the consent that the form of the Salon can be diversified to include other forms such as article analysis and research consulting. In general, the purpose of the Salon is to provide assistance to SYSU’s clinical researchers and to attract more attentions to the clinical researches at SYSU’s affiliated hospitals.
