On May 4, 2016, the 11th SYSU Clinical Research Salon was held in the Reception Room on North Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), attracting doctors, teachers as well as medical students from the University and its affiliated hospitals. Hosted by Prof. Yang Dongjie from The First Affiliated Hospital, the salon invited Dr. Jun Hu from The Sixth Affiliated Hospital and Prof. Liang Dan from the Office of Scientific Research and Development of SYSU.
In the first part of the salon, Dr. Jun Hu shared her experience in clinical research. Working as the research associate of SYSU’s Six Affiliated Hospital, Dr. Hu is also in charge of the hospital’s clinical research office as a director. Her main research direction is intestinal diseases and micro ecosystem. In 2013 and 2014, Dr. Hu was sent to the Johns Hopkins University for a one year study in the area of methodology of clinical research. In the salon, Dr. Hu demonstrated the different stages of clinical research and details that need to be paid attention to by using one of her on-going researches, which is focusing on the impact of microbiome and environment factors to the risks of inflammatory bowel diseases. It is worth noting that this research was supported by SYSU’s 5010 Program.

The 5010 Program of Sun Yat-sen University is a university initiated and supported medical research foundation since 2007. To be specific, its funding targets are clinical research rather than basic research. Literally, “5010” means funding 50 clinical researches for 10 years. By integrating SYSU’’s clinical resources and human capital advantages, the 5010 Program aims to produce a number of influential clinical research findings worldwide and cultivate a group of excellent clinical experts. During the past 9 years, a number of clinical researches have been subsidized and gradually produced a batch of achievements.
