Professor Xueqing Yu served as Chairman of Membership Committee, International Society for the Peritoneal Dialysis

At the recent 15th Congress of International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD), Professor Xueqing Yu was unanimously elected as the chairman of Membership Committee of ISPD, who is the first scholar from Chinese mainland in charge of this position of this academic organization. Meanwhile, it also lays a solid foundation for further establishing the impact of The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in the international community of the peritoneal dialysis.

The ISPD was founded in 1984. Professor Jack Maher from the United States was elected as the first chairman. Currently there are more than 100 member countries in the ISPD, which is held every two years alternately in various regions in the world. The purpose of this Society is to advance knowledge of peritoneal dialysis and to promote advancement of such knowledge through international scientific meetings and scientific publications. The Society is organized exclusively for educational and scientific purposes.

In this meeting, the peritoneal dialysis achievement and experience of The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University has been highly valued. At the opening ceremony, Professor Joanne Bargman, President of ISPD, highly praised the PD satellite center model from the peritoneal dialysis center of The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China, as the center that provides a new model and development prospects of peritoneal dialysis application, for the world, especially developing countries and remote areas.
