Sixty people from the general practitioner standardization training bases of SYSU affiliated hospitals took part in the event.

The goal of the course was to enhance trainers’ clinical teaching and trainees’ service capability for general practitioner standardization training bases. In the demonstration course, Professor Trevor Gibbs vividly expounded general practitioner’s role and expressed the essential factors that should be implemented in treatment process through case study and group discussion. His sharing triggered the reflection on how to be a qualified general practitioner.

Professor Trevor Gibbs is the first foreign professor to lecture on general family medicine at SYSU. He is currently a WHO Consultant in Medical Education, Adolescent Health & Primary Care, Development Officer of the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), Executive Officer for International Affairs RCGP Scotland and Educational Consultant to WONCA and the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME). His experience in General Practice and his interest in Medical Education have given him the opportunity to develop medical curricular programmers in many parts of the world.

To build general practitioner system and progressively form general-practitioner-oriented primary medical teams is the major concern in medical care structural reform. In view of the shortage of high-end talents in general family medicine teaching in China, inviting foreign trainer through international cooperation and exchange is one of the effective ways to enhance the quality of general practitioner training.
