On March 19, the “Launch Ceremony of Organ Donor Registry and International Forum on Organ Donation” was held in Guangzhou. The event was co-hosted by Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), District 3450 of Rotary International, Chinese Hospital Association, and organized by The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and China Organ Transplant Response System. Huang Jiefu, Director of China Organ Donation Committee, Zhou Jun, Deputy Director-General of Bureau of Medical Administration and Supervision of NHFPC, Hao Linna, Vice President of Red Cross Society of China, and Li Wei, a division director at the Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan of NHFPC, attended the event.
Organ Donor Registry in China officially launched
At the meeting, the organ donor registry in China was officially launched, and the organ procurement organization (OPO) alliance, operated under the Chinese Hospital Association, was officially established.
Mr. Eric Tsang Chi-wai, the ambassador for organ donation, became the first volunteer to register in the website (www.savelife.org.cn), and he urged more people to join in the effort to save lives.
At the meeting, OPO hospitals including The First Affiliated Hospital of SYSU also signed international cooperation agreements with famous international organ donation and transplant organizations.
