How many specialties in Guangdong’s hospitals are ranked among the top nationwide? The reporter learned yesterday that the selection of national key clinical specialties was completed recently. In the past three years the National Health and Family Planning Commission organized experts to select four batches of 1,202 key clinical specialties, among which 106 are from Guangdong’s hospitals. The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University has 28 specialties included in the list, ranked first in Guangdong province and fourth in China.

The affiliated hospitals of SYSU are prominent in the list

The selection is dubbed by insiders as the “winners list” of clinical diagnosis and treatment in hospitals nationwide. A total of 28 hospitals in Guangdong are included in the list. The affiliated hospitals of Sun Yat-sen University have 52 national key clinical specialties, accounting for half of the number in Guangdong province. In the list, the number of national key clinical specialties in The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is ranked only after West China Hospital, Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Tongji Hospital.

In The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, nephrology is ranked No. 1 in China; neurology, ICU, hand surgery, digestive medicine and organ transplantation are ranked among top five in the country; half of the specialties selected are ranked among top ten nationwide; and 8 specialties (otorhinolaryngology, organ transplantation, anesthesiology, burn surgery, medical imaging, rehabilitation medicine, clinical pharmacy and special nursing) are the only of its kind in Guangdong province that have been selected as a national key clinical specialty.
