On November 21, the 20th Meeting of Heads of Research Councils in Asia (A-HORCs) was held at the Guangzhou South Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). After the meeting, President Gao Song met with the delegation led by Academician Dou Xiankang, Director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Prof. Lee Kwang Bok, President of the National Research Foundation of Korea, and Mr. Sugino Tsuyoshi, President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Vice President Zheng Yue and representatives from the Office of Scientific Research & Development, and the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange participated in the meeting.

President Gao Song warmly welcomed the guests and introduced to them the development of SYSU, and its cooperation and exchange with Japanese and Korean universities. He said that SYSU was honored to host this A-HORCs meeting and the 2023 Northeastern Asian Symposium. SYSU attaches great importance to cooperation with scientific research institutions and universities in Asia, and hopes to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with all parties through the A-HORCs platform, jointly solve regional scientific problems, and cultivate well-rounded and future-oriented scientific and technological talents.
Vice President Zheng Yue introduced the general situation of scientific research work and basic research at Sun Yat-sen University to the guests.
The delegation thanked SYSU for hosting this meeting and praised the achievements of the university in various fields. They looked forward to cooperating with SYSU in more fields and projects, and jointly contributing to the scientific and technological progress and social development of Asia and the world.
The A-HORCs meeting is a regional meeting jointly initiated by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Research Foundation of Korea, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and held alternately in the three countries. It aims to provide a platform for regular talks among the heads of the three parties, to discuss topics of common interest, to strengthen high-level exchanges among the three parties, and to promote cooperation among the three countries in basic research.
