University of Minnesota Delegation Visited SYSU

On October 19th, Harvey Charles, Vice Provost of the University of Minnesota (UMN), led a delegation to visit SYSU. Executive Vice President Xiao Haipeng met with the guests in Room 313, Zhongshan Building, Guangzhou South Campus. Representatives from Lingnan College, School of Government and Guanghua School of Stomatology attended the meeting.

Executive Vice President Xiao Haipeng extended a warm welcome to the guests and shared the basic information of SYSU. He also reviewed the long history of cooperation between the two universities. In 1998, we began to prepare for the "Executive Master of Business Administration Degree Education Program" together, and in September, 2001, officially began to run the program. Over the past 20 years, the program has successfully trained more than 500 excellent senior managers. Since 2013, we have also established cooperation in the field of dentistry in terms of scientific research, clinical training, faculty exchange and joint training of postgraduate students. Executive Vice President Xiao Haipeng expressed his hope that the two sides will continue to deepen cooperation and further develop cooperation in the fields of public administration, medicine, biology, economics and management, etc., so as to promote people-to-people exchanges between China and the U.S. and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Vice Provost Harvey Charles expressed his gratitude for the warm reception of SYSU and introduced the overview and development strategy of UMN. He said that UMN attaches great importance to the long-term friendship with SYSU. The two universities are similar in scale, both have multi-campus operation patterns, and each has its own advantages in disciplines, thus have a good foundation for cooperation. Since he took office, he has been committed to promoting the internationalization of the university. He expects that this visit can deepen the friendship between the two universities, resume the cooperation in faculty visits and student exchange interrupted by the pandemic, and explore the development of joint training programs in the form of 3+2, 3+1, 1+1, and so on.

Lastly, Executive Vice President Xiao Haipeng presented the delegation with a souvenir of the university and invited UMN delegation to participate in the centennial celebration of SYSU next year.
