A delegation from Lingnan Foundation visited SYSU

On September 19, Dr. Leighton Chan, Chairman of Lingnan Foundation (LNF) and Dr. Ding-Jo Currie, President of LNF visited Sun Yat-sen University. Prof. Gao Song, President of SYSU met with the delegation at the Blackstone House on Guangzhou South Campus.

President Gao extended warm welcome to the delegation. He introduced the recent development of SYSU. In recent years, SYSU has attached great importance to talents education, scientific research, campus construction and international exchange and cooperation, and has come to fruition. President Gao showed gratitude towards the over 40 years’ support from the Lingnan Foundation, and stressed that SYSU values the friendly collaboration with LNF. In 2024, SYSU will celebrate its centennial. President Gao expressed hopes to maintain and further expand cooperation between SYSU and LNF to yield more fruitful results in student cultivation and talents exchange.

Chairman Leighton Chan expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality and noted the profound development progress of SYSU. Chairman Chan said Lingnan Foundation will continue to support and take an active part in comprehensive educational system and high-level talents cultivation as always in line with SYSU’s vision and development needs. LNF adheres to the spirit of Education for Service, and is keen to serve as a bridge to advancing the exchange and cooperation between SYSU and the U.S. universities.

Grant programs have been discussed during the meeting. Prof. Lu Yutong, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Dr. Huang Ruimin, Director of the Office of Educational Development and Alumni Affairs, attended the meeting.

The Lingnan Foundation, formerly the Trustees of Lingnan University, was incorporated in the State of the New York in 1893 by the alumni of Lingnan University, with the initial purpose of supporting the development of Lingnan University in Guangzhou. In 1980, after China's reform and opening up, LNF resumed the activities with Sun Yat-sen University, providing financial support for the development of the University and to promote academic cooperation and exchange with U.S. universities and research institutions.
