A Delegation from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore Visited SYSU

Professor Pier Sandro Cocconcelli, Vice President of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Emeritus Professor Aogostino Giovagnoli, and Professor Elisa Maria Giunipero, Director of the Confucius Institute at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) on June 21, 2023. Professpr Xiao Haipeng, Executive Vice President of SYSU, met with the delegation at the VIP Room of Zhongshan Building on Guangzhou South Campus.

At the meeting, Executive Vice President Xiao Haipeng extended warm welcome to the delegation from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. He said that at Sun Yat-sen University, we value our collaborations with Italian universities. In recent years, SYSU has enjoyed cooperation and exchanges with Italian universities such as Sapienza University of Rome, Università di Padova, Politecnico di Torino, University of Naples-Federico II, University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and Bocconi University. Collaborations are carried out in the fields of physics and astronomy, medicine, material science, engineering, and economics. He hoped that the visit of the delegation will further expand the collaborations between Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Sun Yat-sen University to more academic fields at all levels.

Vice President Pier Sandro Cocconcelli thanked Sun Yat-sen University for the warm reception and hospitality and introduced the development of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in recent years. He said that the two universities have potential for collaborations in history, medicine, pharmacology, nursing, public health, agriculture, sports and other areas. He hoped that more teachers and students of the two universities will visit one another to explore more cooperation opportunities.

Representatives from SYSU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Department of History, and School of Nursing attended the meeting.

Founded in 1921, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is a well-known private university in Italy. The University is comprised of 4 campuses and 12 schools in Milan, Brescia, Piacenza-Cremona and Rome. According to the Best Hospital 2022 ranking by Newsweek, Policlinico Gemelli Hospital, an affiliated hospital of the University, has been ranked the best hospital in Italy.
