Vice President of Syracuse University Zhanjiang Liu Visited SYSU

On May 15, a delegation from Syracuse University (SU) led by Vice President Zhanjiang Liu visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). SYSU Executive Vice President Xiao Haipeng met with the guests in the VIP room of Zhongshan Building on Guangzhou South Campus. Representatives from the School of Government, School of Journalism and Communication, School of Information Management, School of Marine Sciences, and Office of International Cooperation & Exchange attended the meeting.

Executive Vice President Xiao Haipeng extended a warm welcome to the guests and introduced SYSU’s campuses, disciplines, collaborations with the US and future development focus. He emphasized that the two sides have already established some practical cooperation at the school level, and hoped that this meeting would be a beginning of establishing a cooperation framework at the university level. Through further cooperation in cutting-edge areas such as global governance, foreign-related legal affairs, artificial intelligence, and big data, together we can promote people-to-people exchanges between China and the US, and help to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Vice President Zhanjiang Liu expressed his gratitude for the hospitality of SYSU and introduced academic strengths and development strategies of SU. He said that both universities have a strong foundation in liberal arts and both are vigorously developing engineering. He expected the two sides to deepen friendship through the visit and create more opportunities for visits of faculty, and also joint training and exchange of students.

Syracuse University, founded in 1870 and located in Syracuse, New York State, is a prestigious private, comprehensive research university with 12 colleges, including School of Information Studies, College of Engineering and Computer Science, Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, College of Visual and Performing Arts, School of Architecture, School of Education and College of Law, all of which are ranked among the top in the US.
