President of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), Professor Luo Jun, was invited to attend the Fifteenth Marcel Grossmann Meeting on Recent Developments in Theoretical and Experimental General Relativity, Astrophysics and Relativistic Field Theories (MG15) to deliver a plenary talk on the TianQin Project on July 4, 2018. He also took the opportunity to host a reception, “SYSU Connection”, in the night of July 3 to share his vision on the future of SYSU and the current development status with the scholars from around the globe. He cordially sent his invitations to overseas outstanding young scholars to join SYSU. The reception has received favorable feedback.

The Marcel Grossmann Meeting, one of the top level international conferences in the fields of astrophysics, cosmology, provided a top-notch platform for SYSU to expand overseas connection and improve international impact.
Led by President Luo Jun, the SYSU delegation was composed of deans, assistant deans and experts from the School of Physics and Astronomy, School of Physics, School of Intelligent Systems Engineering, School of Biomedical Engineering, and School of Electronics and Communication Engineering. International scholars at MG15, as well as Chinese scholars and students at the Sapienza University of Rome and nearby INFN institutes, a total of nearly 300 people attended the SYSU Connection reception sponsored by Sun Yat-sen University at Aula Magna. The participants had in-depth exchanges with members of the SYSU delegation, learning more about higher education in China, especially SYSU’s development goals and measures in building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the new era. The deans and the deputy director of the Office of Talent Development introduced the basic situation, research platforms and talent policies, and answered questions raised by the audience.

Professor Remo Ruffini, Director of ICRANet and Chair of International Organizing Committee of MG15, lent his strong support to the event. Mr. Luo Ping, Educational Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Italy, also attended the event.
