December 11 morning, led by Jeffrey Xie Erci , the principal of U.S. Vermont Law School, Yang Zeming, the Director of hospital cooperation in the China Environmental Law Project , deputy director Liu Jingjing, and the director of Environment and Natural Resources Law, Clinic • David Mills visited our school. Party deputy secretary of SYSU,Mr. Liang Qingyi , and the vice president of School of Law, Xu Zhongming and Li Zhiping with Hao Yajuan, the Deputy Director of international cooperation and exchanges greeted the guests.
Mr. Liang Qongyin extended his warm welcome to the arrival of Principal Xie Erci and his party, and recalled the fruitful cooperation between the two schools over the years. He believed that this subject has a positive impact on the development of environmental law in the Law Faculty of his school and the environmental decision-making resulting of Guangdong government. He also looked forward to further cooperation and deepens exchanges in the future.
Principal Xie Erci said Sun Yat-sen University is one of the most important cooperative of Vermont Law School. Throughout the long-lasting cooperation, the two sides have made positive effects on academic exchanges, and also deepened the mutual friendship between teachers and students. He was convinced of our teachers and students’ capabilities of research and professionalism, as well as the results of Chinese environmental law cooperation projects in the past three years. He also hoped to continue to promote bilateral cooperation process.
Vice-president Xu Zhongming and President Jeffrey Xie Erci signed a memorandum of cooperation on behalf of the two sides. The two sides also carried out in depth discussions regarding student projects, joint training of student projects, legal clinics projects, joint research projects, summer school projects and ect.
Vermont Law School is located in Vermont, US. It is known for its law of environmental resource, with the nation's most extensive environmental law research and teaching resources. In April 2004, School of Law, SYSU officially signed cooperation agreements with Vermont Law School. In December 2006, the two sides signed a memorandum about “China Environmental Law Project” supported by the United States Agency for International Development for understanding established between the two sides in environmental law, energy law and other affairs in the realm of legal studies. In September 2009, the project was successfully completed. The United States Agency for International Development is very satisfied with the results of the project, agreed on the basis of previous projects, continue to support School of Law, SYSU in cooperation with the Vermont Law School for three years.
