On November 27, 2019, the 25th National College Students Fencing Championship ended in Xiamen University. More than 600 athletes from 52 universities and colleges nationwide took part in the championship. After 7-day competition, SYSU fencing team won 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals, achieving the champion in Women’s Foil Individual for five consecutive times.

The SYSU fencing team, consisting of 26 athletes in Epee, Sabre and Foil under the guidance of Associate Professor Cai Yongmao and Coach Wanglei from the Department of Physical Education, took part in the competition. The women’s events in this competition had 6 gold medals, and SYSU students won 3 of them in Women’s Sabre Team, Women’s Foil Team, and Women’s Foil Individual. In addition, SYSU students won 1 silver medal in Women’s Sabre Individual as well as 3 bronze medals in Women’s Foil Individual and Women’s Epee Team, showcasing the strengths of SYSU female fencing athletes. In men’s events, SYSU students won the silver medal in Men’s Foil Team. Moreover, two freshmen entered the top eight in Men’s Foil Individual.
