The 18th National University Students Track and Field Championship kicked off in Heilongjiang on July 15, 2018, attracting more than 2,300 participants from 190 universities nationwide.

On July 17, Xuan Dajun, an undergraduate student from the School of Government at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), became the champion in the high-level group A men’s 100-meter dash at 10.41 seconds. Meanwhile, Zheng Liang, a PhD candidate from SYSU’s First Affiliated Hospital, won the bronze medal in the sunshine group men’s 400-meter race. Li Wenjie, an udergraduate student from SYSU’s School of Government, won the fourth place in the high-level group A men’s 100-meter dash at 10.67 seconds.

On July 19, SYSU relay team finished first in the high-level group A men’s 4x100m relay final at 40.69 seconds, earning SYSU’s first gold medal of group event at the national track and field games. Members of the team included four undergraduate students from SYSU’s School of Government: Zhou Guoxing, Li Wenjie, Zou Qi and Xuan Dajun.

Tutored by coaches Li Yi, Qiu Yabin, Huang Zhirong, Chen Yajin and Wang Feng, the SYSU track and field team has prepared for nearly ten months for the event, and they demonstrated SYSU students’ demeanor in the championship.
