On November 5th, 2015, Yang Dongcheng, Deputy Director of the Office for International Students’ Affairs at Sun Yat-sen University and Liang Chanwen, counselor of Zhongshan School of Medicine, led 27 international medical students on a visit to The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU in Zhuhai and exchanged their studying and living experience at the university with the international students on Zhuhai Campus.
The activities were aimed at exposing international medical students to the medical technology, culture, scientific research and teaching, training plans, and developmental orientation of the hospital. The activity also presented a chance to promote communication between SYSU international students from the Zhuhai and Guangzhou-based campuses.

Visiting The Fifth Affiliated Hospital
Zhang Hua, the chief of Scientific Research and Education Department, gave a brief introduction to the hospital, covering its structure, research activities, advanced equipment, training plans, and its outstanding disciplines. All students were amazed by the myriad strengths of the hospital and felt proud to be one member of the SYSU community. At the end of his introduction Zhang Hua also urged every student present to study for a Master or Doctorate of Medical Science.
After the meeting the students visited the Department of Pathology, the Central Lab, the Department of Radiology, the Department of General Surgery, the Department of Rehabilitation, and the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine. By watching the doctors take samples and analyze them, they learned how the complex medical equipment worked. It was indeed a very useful class for all the medical students and a good opportunity for them to prepare in advance for their future careers.

Visiting Zhuhai Campus
After the hospital visit, the students returned to the Zhuhai Campus to have lunch with international students there, conversing about their lives and study in China. After lunch, they had a tour on the campus and appreciated the beautiful scenery: from enjoying peace in the library, where one can view the sea from the front of the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, to going into the dormitories and learning more about life at Zhuhai Campus. After spending time among the beautiful scenery and modern buildings and speaking with their peers on Zhuhai Campus, many Guangzhou-based students came away with a great impression of life and study in Zhuhai.

The last stop on their trip was the symbol of Zhuhai: The Fishing Girl Statute. Students listened to the legend of the Fishing Girl carefully and gradually understood more about the culture of Zhuhai. It was a great memory to serve as a capstone to a wonderful experience in a romantic city.
This activity offered a good opportunity to form tighter bonds between international students from Guangzhou Campus and Zhuhai Campus. All students learned a lot from the trip and gained memories that they will cherish for a long time to come.
