On February 26th, the final competition of the 2nd Guangdong-Hongkong College Students French Speech Contest was held in SYSU. Jean-Raphael Peytregnet, the Consul General of France in Guangzhou, Francois Rivest, the Consul General of Canada in Guangzhou, Yan Guangmei, the vice-president of SYSU, Chuang Chenguang, dean of School of Foreign Languages, and Xu Yao, deputy director of the international cooperation and exchanges office were present at the contest.
The topic of the speech contest is “Pearl River Delta in 2050”. Ten contestants from nine universities in Guangdong or Hongkong got the qualification for the final. The ten contestants have showed individual characteristics in their speeches. Some were both excellent in voice and affection; some explained profound theories in simple language; some provoked thoughts. The audiences all indulged in the wonderful speeches. Tremendous applause burst from the crowd from time to time. After a thoughtful evaluation , ten judges from France, Hongkong and Guangzhou awarded the first prize to Tang Duo, a junior student from the French Department, SYSU. Weier TJANG, from the University of Hongkong, was awarded the second and Jackie YIN, from Hongkong Baptist University, was the third. The first prize winner Tang Duo will go to the Second University of Nancy, France for a three-week exchange during the summer vacation 2011.
"Guangdong-Hongkong College Students French Speech Contest” provides a communication platform for students who major in French, boosts the passion of learning French for students in the Pearl River Delta, and enhances students’ attention to the development of the Pearl River Delta.
