The School of Chinese as a Second Language held an oversea students class video contest on June 13th. All together there were 14 productions which were intellectual outputs by each individual class, presenting oversea students' study life at SYSU and their appreciation and affection for the Chinese culture.

During the contest, the oversea students presented their classmates, teachers, rich and abundant classroom activities and extracurricular activities with interesting pictures, beautiful descriptions and dynamic flash, accompanied by selected background music, sharing their wonderful experiences of learning Chinese language at SYSU and precious friendship gained through cultural exchanges.. Advanced class 2 and Grade 3 higher class A and C of undergraduate programme jointly made a video of special sandwich. They artfully made an inviting sandwich with characteristic vegetable of each classmate's country as raw materials, comparing them to their harmonious yet different mental visage of different groups. This production was highly appreciated among the judges and the audience, and won the first prize. Wong Cheung Sofia, an oversea student from Dominican Republic, said:" we three classes have class together most of the time and that is why we made the video together. We don’t care what the outcome is, we just want to attend the contest and get to know one another better. It is as simple as that."

Liu Yang, monitor of primary class 1E from India, ebulliently showed his class's love for the Chinese culture during the presentation. He said:" Oversea students from all over the world get together in China because they love Chinese language and culture. We have a classmate living in Foshan. It takes him two hours to come to Guangzhou, but he never misses a class and is seldom late." Thi Dieu Ngoc Nguyen from Vietnam said that she was grateful for the help and support from teachers and classmates during her three-year of study life at SYSU. During the contest, there was also a talent show for oversea students. Karashima Hikaru from Japan sang a Chinese song Zhongguo Hua with fluency, which received loud applause from the audience and pushed the atmosphere to the climax. He said: “In America, we speak English. In Japan, we speak Japanese. While in China, naturally we should speak Chinese."
