The oral English competition, one of the most important competitions at Sun Yat-Sen University which is hosted by College English Teaching Division and assisted by Foreign Language Association, has come to its 8th term, The Light of Eden. This year, one of the key features of the competition is that the contestantsare coming from all the four campuses, including the north campus, which renders it to be the biggest one since initiated.

The competition is consisted of several parts that are designed to test various capabilities of the contestants. Ordinary reading testesare to test the pronunciation and intonation of contestants. The impromptu speech, requests one’s excellent sense of English language and shrewd respond. Additionally, it arranges an English debate in the finals, bringing great challenges to one’s logic and eloquence. In a word, the competition provides everyone with great opportunities to exercise their abilities in various aspects.

This year, in Zhuhai campus, 225 English fans have come to challenge themselves in the preliminary on April 14th, among them 25 winnersmade it to the next round, the semi final. According to Jasmine, one contestantfrom the school of International Study ,who had participated in the competition last year, the game brought her not only a stage to show her English proficiency , but also greater enthusiasm in study and more confidence in life. “I love this game.” She says.

The semi final is to be held on April 25th. Let’s look forward to more wonderful performances of these contestants.
