From Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, the final of the 11th ‘Challenge Cup’ contest for the National University Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Presentation took place at Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics. All of the five entries SYSU submitted were awarded. Among them, “The molecular mechanism through which C-Jun regulates the neuronal apoptosis” by Zheng Zhihao and other students from Zhongshan School of Medicine won the top prize — the Grand Prize. As the instructor of this project, Professor Li Mingtao who is also from Zhongshan School of Medicine, was honored the title of “National Excellent Instructor”.
In addition, the entry “The study of wormhole pore size control” by Li Zhenghui and his classmates from School of Chemistry won the second prize (with the instructors being associate Professor Wu Dingcai and Professor Fu Ruowen). The 3 other entries of SYSU "Guiding devices for the blind based on electronic location technology" by Tang Junliang and other students from College of Life Science (the instructors were Professor Li Baojun and Professor Wang Jinfa), "The performance, mechanisms and countermeasures of the latent regulations of civil service organizations, " by Lin Weishuang and other students from School of Government ( with the instructors being Professor Jing Huaibin) and "The study of a new technology to re-organize the preparation for the rhVEGI-192A -inhibitor of human vascular endothelial cell growth" by Chen Xu and other students from Zhongshan School of Medicine (the instructors were Professor Li Mengfeng and Professor Yuanjie) won third prizes respectively.
The 11th “Challenge Cup” contest for the National University Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Presentation is a nationwide contest for extracurricular academic practice among university students sponsored jointly by the Communist Youth League Central Committee, China Association for Science & Technology, Ministry of Education and All-China Students Federation. This contest has attracted students from various universities and colleges every year. The Youth League Committee of SYSU has always taken technological innovation as well as scientific and technological personnel training as the main agenda and adhere to the principle of “Focusing on undergraduate students, Extracurricular and Innovation”,, striving to build the "Challenge Cup” into a platform through which students will demonstrate their scientific research strength and communicate with students from other colleges and universities.
