On November 2, themed on “Green Transport, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency”, the final contest and awarding ceremony of the first Sustainable Innovation Students’ Competition took place in Beijing. , 36 contestants from 9 competing teams of Chinese colleges and universities were competing for the final grand prize. “C Power Team”, made up of undergraduate students Huo Da, Xiao Yonghong, Zhang Xi and Zhou Hongyong of Public Relations major from the School of Communication and Design, SYSU, won the first place in the Green Transportation Group with "Promotion Program for Auto 'Carbon Footprint' Fuel-Efficiency Project ". Zhangxi was honored the “Climate Cool Student of the Year Award”. The team, in partnership with the winning teams of Renewable Energy Group and Energy Efficiency Group from Changchun University of Science and Technology and the University of Hong Kong respectively, will attend the series events to be held simultaneously with the COP-15 United Nations Climate Change Conference in December 2009, together with entertainer Li Bingbing who is the honorary chairman of the competition.
As the competition’s goodwill ambassador and honorary chairman, entertainer Li Bingbing presented the final awarding ceremony and conferred the awards to championship teams.
The competition, sponsored jointly by 51Sim, Camco, 51Give and the Cultural and Education Section of the British Embassy, is one of the Asian projects supported by Clinton Foundation and is designed to foster university students’ environmental entrepreneurship so as to call on people to care for the climate change and environment protection.
