Recently, Sun Yat-sen University welcomed the official commencement of the Fourth Poetry Contest of University Students from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, which is sponsored by the Department of Chinese of Sun Yat-sen University and co-organized by Dongguan Institute of Poetry, Painting and Calligraphy.
The contest has set an additional group of post-graduate on the basis of the previous undergraduate group, thus making the awards increase from the previous 18 to 36. The Contest Organizing Committee will take electronic submissions from October 1st to 20th. Poetry Contest of University Students from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan has been held for three times, co-organized by the Departments of Chinese of Sun Yat-sen University, Hong Kong Chinese University, Macao University as well as Taiwan Chenggong University respectively. The purpose is not only to carry forward the essence of Chinese culture and to promote the creation of traditional Chinese poetry, but also to strengthen the academic and cultural communication among teachers and students of universities and colleges from the four regions of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.) The contest, held annually, is sponsored in turn by the departments of Chinese of the four universities. There are Poetry Contest and Songproses Contest with a first prize, a second prize and a third prize as well as 6 merit awards respectively. In the first three contests, students from Sun Yat-sen University have hit a good record with 23 awards in total.
