Guangzhou Ballet Troupe came to SYSU to perform for graduate students

On the evenings of October 24 and 25, invited by the Graduate School of SYSU, the Guangzhou Ballet Troupe performed Giselle for SYSU graduate students at K.K. Leung Hall on South Campus. More than 2,000 people watched the performance, including graduate students and their supervisors, as well as teachers in graduate education and management.

Considered one of the great Romantic ballets, Giselle was debuted at the Salle Le Peletier in Paris, France in 1841.Zhang Dandan, head of Guangzhou Ballet Troupe and art director of the troupe’s performance of Giselle, explained the plot and some basic ballet knowledge for the audience. During the two-hour performance, Guangzhou Ballet Troupe reproduced the romance and splendor of Giselle for SYSU teachers and students with excellent dances, first-class cast and magnificent stage set, winning prolonged applauses from the audience.

The purpose of this event was to provide a platform for graduate students to appreciate high art and enrich their extracurricular activities. Many graduates spoke highly of the performance. A student said: “The performance is really professional. I am grateful to the artists for their hard work to offer us such a wonderful show!” A lot of students also expressed their thoughts on Weibo and WeChat, hoping that they could have more opportunities to appreciate performances by artists and art troupes.

As one of the best art troupes in China, Guangzhou Ballet Troupe has visited over twenty countries and regions for cultural exchange and performance, and gained praise from the audience and the media.
