The 3rd Summer Camp for Medical Students from Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao was Held by Sun Yat-sen University

From July 15th to 27th, the 3rd Joint Summer Camp for Medical Students from Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, which was approved by the Ministry of Education and whose participants include the students from University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, City University of Hong Kong, Macau University of Science and Technology, National Taiwan University, Peking University and Fudan University, was held by Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong Province. As a major exchange program to Hong Kong’s education circles supported by Ministry of Education, this summer camp’s theme is ‘the journey of culture, love and friendship’, gathering 60 outstanding students from eight famous universities in Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.

In memorial of the 100th anniversary of Xinhai Revolution, the summer camp designed two major touring routes: ‘Sun Yat-sen with Modern and Contemporary Chinese History ’ and ‘Lingnan Culture’ . During the six-day journey, campers visited many cultural landscapes such as the Museum of Guangdong Province, the Memorial Museum of the Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen's Mansion, Sun Yat-sen Hospital, Lingnan Impression Garden, Chens Clan Temple, Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park in Zhongshan City, Hakka Culture Park in Meizhou City, Ye Jianying Former Residence Memorial Hall, Hanshan Academy of Classic Learning, Yuangong Academy of Classic Learning, Temple of Han Wengong, Xiangzi Bridge, Chaozhou Gardens ,they also enjoyed the traditional performances of Chaozhou gong and drum music and Hakka folk songs. In order to experience the achievement of modern development of Guangdong Province, campers joined in the Pearl River Night Cruise, visited the Guangzhou Flower City Square, Hoi Sham Sand, Guangzhou Tower, High-tech Industrial Park, and Meizhou Yannanfei Ecologically Friendly Park. Additionally, campers listened to the lecture with the topic of ‘the Revolution Path of Sun Yat-sen and the Modern and Contemporary History of Lingnan’ given by professor Cao Tianzhong from History Department, Sun Yat-sen University. In Meizhou High School, campers participated in the volunteers teaching program, a meaningful activity where they tasted the happiness of devotion and rewards.

Medical students from Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao had experienced the culture of Lingnan, traced the path of the great men, reviewed the history of modern and contemporary China, volunteered to be teachers, expanded their cultural visions, self-cultivated their senses of humanities, spread love and harvested friendship during these memorable two weeks.

Qian Zongliang, Vice President of the School of Medicine, National Taiwan University, Li Hong, Deputy Director of Dean Office of the Faculty of Medicine, Peking University, Qi Xiaoping, Director of Students’ Affair Office, Sun Yat-sen University, Xia Dan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University, Liao Qinan, Deputy Secretary of Youth League Committee of Sun Yat-sen University, Chen Shengping, Vice President of Zhongshan School of Medicine and other leaders presented at the opening ceremony of the summer camp. Wang Rui, the Youth League Committee Secretary of Shanghai School of Medicine, Fudan University, Chen Changling, Deputy Director of Students’ Affair Office, Sun Yat-sen University, Hao Yajuan, Deputy Director of Office of International Communication and Exchange, Huang Cheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhongshan School of Medicine and other leaders attended the closing ceremony.
