On the evening of October 21, Recruitment of Volunteers for the SYSU project “Blue Envelope” -Caring for Left-behind Children, was held on the Zhuhai campus of SYSU. Members of the project, volunteers of correspondence, members of cross-campus council shared their volunteer experiences, and urged students to act together and participate more actively in the good cause events. This is the first time that the “Blue Envelope” project has recruited volunteers on the Zhuhai campus. At present, many SYSU students are attentative to the project, and are eager to become volunteers. In addition, student social associations also expressed the desire to support and cooperate.
The “University Blue Envelope Project” conducted by SYSU students, is a project awarded in the 1st “Yi Nuan Zhong Hua” Google’s Cup University Student Welfare Innovative Contest. Through simple yet heartwarming letters, volunteers made one-to-one pairs with left-behind children, maintained long-term communication, and forged friendship and mutual trust. Since its inception in 2008, the project has organized five trips where SYSU student volunteers visited Hanshou, Henan Province, and Heyuan, Guangdong Province, and brought back related information about the local left-behind children. The volunteers made one-to-one communication through correspondence. Presently, there are more than 200 volunteers participating in the event. According to the return visit to the left-behind children participating in the project in September, there are positive changes in their attitudes towards life and study, an indication of project’s influence.
