The campus features new engineering, medical science, and agricultural science, with a focus on China's strategic emerging technologies, Shenzhen's innovative development and future industrial planning.

“This is currently the most advanced human physiological experiment system in China. With AI technology, we teach in a more intuitive and convenient method,” Professor Tan Hongmei told GDToday in the laboratory of the School of Medicine.

In this school, the total value of basic and clinical medicine teaching laboratory equipment exceeds 180 million RMB. It highlights rare teaching equipment in China's medical schools, such as Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Training System, and adult and infant ECMO, providing first-class conditions for students' clinical skills training.

In the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a NanoSat independently developed by the students will be sent to the sky for the university's centennial celebration in 2024.

Students in the School of Intelligent Systems Engineering have made breakthroughs in self-developed drones, autonomous driving and robots, and established cooperation with Dongguan-based Direct Drive Tech.

The disciplines of Shenzhen Campus are fully in line with Shenzhen's “20+8” industrial cluster development goals. As of June 2023, Shenzhen Campus has nurtured more than 6,200 graduates, and nearly 80 percent of employed graduates work in key national industries and fields such as clinical medicine, public health, and AI.

Gao Song, President of Sun Yat-sen University, said that the university would promote the second construction phase in the development plan of Guangming Science City.

According to Gao, the second phase will strengthen the layout in the field of “future technology”, expanding its focus on intelligent manufacturing, new materials and new energy, biomedicine, and flexible electronics.

He noted that the campus would also advance education cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao, and continue to further international exchanges with global partners.

Khemara Chhouk comes from Cambodia. In 2018, he was enrolled in Sun Yat-sen University with support from the Belt and Road Initiative. He's currently pursuing his Master's degree in the School of Biomedical Engineering.

In terms of international collaboration, he considers Shenzhen a multicultural city. On Shenzhen Campus, he has the opportunity to participate in various cultural activities. “I have benefited from a diverse range of teaching methods and academic experiences. The learning atmosphere at school is very strong, and the college also pays great attention to its international students,” said Chhouk.
