According to the accreditation procedures, Prof. Gui Yonghao, Chair of the Review Panel, presented the preliminary accreditation report. He analyzed the strengths and characteristics of the medical education at SYSU from ten aspects including mission and objectives, educational program, assessment of student achievements, etc., and offered suggestions for improvement. The Review Panel agrees that SYSU has a long history of medical education and clearly-defined objectives. The good traditions of “Three Basics, Three Rigors and Three Early Involvements” enable the cultivation of outstanding medical talents with profound foundation, excellent competency and great potential. The discipline-based curriculum system uses the University’s advantages in the humanities, social sciences and science to offer a variety of elective courses for medical students. The Clinical Medicine programs enroll top students in the nation, and the graduates have a high pass rate in the National Medical Licensing Examination. In addition, the University’s great strengths in scientific research, outstanding teaching faculties and rich clinical teaching resources ensure the cultivation of high-quality doctors. The Review Panel advises that the University should listen to the opinions of relevant stakeholders in the process of formulating the development plan for medical sciences, give full play to the role of relevant committees in the top-down design and major decision making process, pay attention to the new development trend in medical education, strengthen top-down design in future planning and specify concrete routes for implementation.
