China has surpassed the United States to become the world's leading contributor to high-quality cancer research for the first time, according to the 2025 Nature Index-Cancer supplement released recently. Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) ranked 4th globally among leading institutions in cancer-related research output from January 2019 to August 2024, trailing elite institutions like Harvard University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health. This achievement underscores SYSU's commitment to tackling cancer through innovation and collaboration and its pivotal role in advancing China's rise as the world's foremost contributor to groundbreaking cancer studies.
