The Hospital Expanded Strategic Collaboration with University of Birmingham

On October 23, 2019, The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, the University of Birmingham, Evergrande Health Industry Group Ltd. and BGP Medi-care Consulting Company Limited signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement between the four parties.

The collaboration aims to provide training for general practitioners (GPs) to improve the service capacity of community health centers in Guangzhou and promote healthcare quality in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In 2011, the Guangzhou Municipal Government and the University of Birmingham officially set up a strategic partnership. Since then, the Hospital has carried out a series of cooperative activities with the University of Birmingham in clinical trial and primary care.


A Delegation from University of California and Lingnan Foundation Visited the Hospital

From October 9 to October 11, 2019, a delegation from the University of California and Lingnan Foundation visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.

The delegation was led by David Lindeman, Director of Department of Medical and Health Affairs, the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS), the University of California, and Ding-Jo H Currie, President of the Lingnan Foundation.

Through group discussions and field visits, the Hospital and CITRIS reached a cooperative intention in the fields of robotic surgery, big data analysis, joint doctoral training, and building a joint training center in Nansha International Hospital.


A Strategic Partnership Officially Established with Lifespan/Rhode Island Hospital, Brown University

On October 28, 2019, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University signed a memorandum of understanding with Lifespan/Rhode Island Hospital, an affiliated hospital to Brown University.

The two sides will conduct in-depth collaboration in the areas of faculty training, joint grant applications for liver diseases and cancer and multi-center clinical trial projects.


Nobel Laureate Visited the Hospital

On October 27, 2019, Professor Robert Merton, Nobel Laureate – Economics 1997, and Dr. Azita Sharif, Chief Operating Officer of Data Sciences International, Inc. (DSI) visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.

After a heated discussion, the two sides reached a preliminary consensus on cooperating with DSI Inc.'s data platform in the fields of organ transplantation, precision medicine, electronic medical records and medical big data.

Professor Robert Merton is the Chairman of the DSI Inc., a medical technology group that masters the core technologies of cancer treatment and organ transplantation.

 

FAH-SYSU – University of Plymouth Forum on Dementia Held in the Hospital

On October 22, 2019, FAH-SYSU - University of Plymouth Forum on Dementia was held in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University(FAH-SYSU). The forum was chaired by Professor Ding Meilin, Professor He Wen and Associate Professor Yuan Gang from the Department of Geriatrics.

Professor Bridie Kent, nursing expert from the University of Plymouth and Professor Liu Jun from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University were invited to give lectures.

The experts shared their insights on building a dementia friendly community according to local conditions, and how to provide better nursing for patients with dementia.
