On December 17, 2018, The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (FAH-SYSU) was accredited Venous Thrombosis Prevention Model Base by China Health Promotion Foundation.
A Severely Burned Newborn Successfully Treated
Recently, Departments of Burn Surgery, Pediatrics, ICU and Anesthesiology cooperated with each other and successfully treated a newborn with severe burns. Dr. Naiem Moiemeu, President of the International Society of Burn Injury (ISBI), who was visiting the hospital at the time was invited to the group consultation.
Patient with Malignant Arrhythmia Successfully Rescued in Dominica
Recently, Professor Yang Zhen from Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, leader of the Chinese Medical Team in Dominica, successfully rescued a patient with malignant arrhythmia at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Dominica.
The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University Held a Training Class for Faculty of Standardized Resident Training in Surgery
On December 21, 2018, FAH-SYSU held a training class for faculty of standardized resident training in surgery. The course focuses on the training of surgical residents. Experts from affiliated hospitals of Peking University, Fudan University and Sichuan University were invited to give 14 keynote speeches and 12 workshops were held on curriculum design, operation management and evaluation system. Nearly 400 teaching directors and backbone teachers from 120 hospitals in 20 provinces attended the training class.
The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University Leading the Establishment of a General Practice Health Alliance
On December 17, 2018, a symposium on the establishment of Guangzhou general practice and the hierarchical medical system alliance was held in The First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University.
Prof. Xiao Haipeng, Vice President of Sun Yat-Sen University and President of FAH-SYSU, Professor K.K. Cheng, Director of Institute of Applied Health, University of Birmingham, Mr. Ouyang Ziwen, Deputy Director of Guangzhou Health Commission, attended the discussion. The meeting was presided over by Prof. Kuang Ming, Vice President of FAH-SYSU.

The symposium aimed to explore the possibility of establishing a standardized general practice health alliance based on cooperation between FAH-SYSU, the University of Birmingham and the Guangzhou Health Commission. The alliance plans to initiate the continuing education project for grassroots general practitioners and the development of hierarchical medical system service. The representatives of three parties had an in-depth discussion on standardized training of general practitioners, the establishment of “Tertiary Hospital - Community Hospital” network, the introduction of British standardized general practice training system and how to employ the advantages of social capital and commercial insurance. Prof. Xiao Haipeng emphasized that general practice was the foundation of health and the cornerstone for realizing the Chinese Healthy Dream, and FAH-SYSU should effectively promote healthcare reform and innovation, vigorously develop general practice, lead social services and personnel training, and serve the development of the Greater Bay Area.
The three parties reached a consensus on the establishment of general practice health alliance. An MoU was scheduled to be signed in March 2019. The alliance strives to establish a national-level general practice benchmark model in china.
