Studies on “New Therapeutic Regimes and Clinical Application of Type 2 Diabetes”, which were carried out and completed by the First, Second and Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Peking University People’s Hospital and other research institutes with Professor Weng Jianping as the team leader, won the second National Prize for Science and Technology Progress at the 2011 National Science and Technology Award Conference. This hard-won recognition attributes to the joint effort of this research team, and is also closely related to the perseverance of Professor Weng Jianping.

As the hospital's vice president, Professor Weng Jianping set higher goals for himself. He deliberates the management of the hospital, the resources allocation of different departments and the policy making of the hospital, and puts his ideas into practice. It is also Professor Weng Jianping’s goal to make every effort to create good academic atmosphere and a platform in the hospital and to achieve the fast development of the hospital and the Department of Endocrinology at the same time.

The number of diabetes patients in China has reached 92 million, which makes China the country with most diabetes patients in the world. “As a professional of treating and studying diabetes, the 'enemy' I face is no longer just a disease, but a serious social problem.” It is with such a sense of responsibility that Professor Weng Jianping moves his way forward.
