At the end of last year, Doc. Lin Haotian and his colleagues from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of our university encountered an eyeworm case in clinic work. They traced the case and collected, for the first time, complete clinical data about thelaziasis. A month ago, a research paper written by Doc. Lin was published in the top international academic magazine The Lancetand became the most clicked article of the online-magazine in January.

Although cases of thelaziasis have been kept discovering all over the world and more than a hundred cases have been reported in China, formal medical literature has little record on it. Doc. Lin immediately took photos after taking over this case. During the treatment and follow-up visits, he recorded and kept complete clinical data on thelaziasis, including clinical symptoms, treating process and pictures. The elaborate and thorough clinical data convinced The Lancetto accept the research result and publish the article. Most of the Chinese scholars who have published clinical papers in top international magazines, concentrate on reviewing massive samples, mainly because of the large population in China, which provides vast patient samples and abundant data. In contrast with this, single “small researches” have been scarcely published, due to the failures in following up the case timely and keeping clinical data, which make it hard to provide complete first-hand data.
