Professor Liu Chao from Sun Yat-Sen Hospital Won Second Prize in the Final of the National Competition for Videoed Surgeries of Young Surgeons from General Surgery Department

Recently, the final of the 2011 China Competition for Videoed Surgeries of Young Surgeons from General Surgery Department has been held in Beijing, as one of the activities celebrating the Chinese Surgery Week. Professor Liu Chao from the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of Sun Yat-Sen Hospital took part in the competition of Hepatopancreatobiliary Diseases group. His video "Anterior Approach to Cut Huge Liver Cancer in Right Lobe of Liver” won the honor of Second Prize.
This competition was a high-standard competition held by Chinese Society of Surgery, Chinese Medical Association. The competition was consisted of several phases: firstly, the selection round in different provinces; secondly, elimination round in five regions, i.e. Eastern, Western, Southern, Northern, and Central part of China; and finally, the selection of 24 competitors out of 548 for the national final. The final was divided into two parts: Gastrointestinal Diseases (14 competitors) and Hepatopancreatobiliary Diseases (10 competitors). Each part had one first prize, two second prizes and three third prizes.
Professor Liu Chao from the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of Sun Yat-Sen Hospital won the second prize. It shows the excellent academic ability and personal charisma of the staff in this hospital. It also demonstrates the hospital’s leading place in the field of hepatobiliary surgery.
