The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University Gave Free Medical Consultation on the “World No-Tobacco Day”

May 31st is the World No-Tobacco Day. To celebrate the 24th “World No-Tobacco Day” and to advocate cherishing health and keeping away from tobacco, a large-scale “World No-Tobacco Day” free clinic was held in front of the outpatient building by the Third Affiliated Hospital of SYSU.

In the morning, doctors from department of respiratory medicine, vasculocardiology department, department of endocrinology, department of chest surgery, maternity department and department of psychiatry, voluntarily gave on-site medical consultation, which was themed by “the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control”. They patiently answered people’s questions on quitting smoking and delivered over 300 educational materials, including Nicotin Dependence Test Scale, I Can Quit Smoking, A Kindly Reminder for Establishment of National Smokeless Hospitasl, Keep off Tobacco &Return to Health.

Smoking is one of the most serious public health problems nowadays. At present, China has over 300 millions smokers, and more than one million people die of tobacco-related diseases annually, outnumbering the sum total of people who die of AIDs, tuberculosis, traffic accidents and suicides.
