Voluntary Blood Donation Held on the Zhuhai Campus

Sponsored by the Zhuhai Blood Station, and organized by the Zhuhai Campus Branch of SYSU’s Red Cross Association, the voluntary blood donation activity was held on the Zhuhai campus from 24-25 April.

The activity has been held every year with the aim of cultivating students’ awareness of dedication. And this year’s activity is endowed with a special meaning. The presiding staff of the activity noted that: “The 4.14 Yushu earthquakes sadden every student, and they want to offer some help to the people in the earthquake-stricken areas in their own way. The 5.12 has dealt a heavy blow to us, and we know that blood provision is critical for the rescue of the wounded. So at the advice of staff from the Zhuhai blood station and the students, we hold this year’s blood donation activity in advance.”

The whole procedure of the blood donation, including registration, body examination, checking, blood collection, was well arranged. Volunteers of the activity explained the basic knowledge of blood donation and the use of the donated blood to the students who are intended to donate blood in the blood donating consulting room. At the blood donation spot, equipped with two blood donation cars and three simple tent, volunteers of the Red Cross Association assisted the medical staff from the Zhuhai blood station to conduct a series of body examination on the blood donors. University teachers and students were actively participating in the activity.

By 3:00 pm, all the blood packs in the blood donation cars had been full, but some students still rushed to the blood donation spot, wishing to take part in this meaningful activity.

Blood is the source of life, and love is the dawn of life. Students extended their caring love to the people in the earthquake-hit areas and gratitude to the society with their love and devotion.
