On August 18-27, the 2016 National Fencing Cup Series was held in Quanzhou, Fujian province. Nearly 1,290 athletes from 107 fencing teams nationwide participated in 9 groups of the competition. Tutored by coaches Cai Yongmao and Wang Lei, Sun Yat-sen University Fencing Team participated in foil, epee and sabre fencing.

There were a total of 6 gold medals in the college group of the fencing competition, and SYSU gained 3 golds and 1 silver. Xu Rong won gold in women’s foil individual, Tan Yongbin won gold in men’s sabre individual, Ma Heng won gold in men’s epee individual, and Liu Chuji won silver in women’s foil individual, showing the strength of SYSU Fencing Team.
