Two SYSU PhD students Receives Prizes at IEEE 125-year Anniversary Competition

On September 21, good news was heard from the “Microsoft Cup” IEE Chinese Students Thesis Competition that Hu Xiaoming and Chen Weineng, the PhD students of the year of 2008 from the School of Information Science and Technology, Sun Yat-Sen University, had got the second prize and the third prize respectively, thus making Sun Yat-Sun University the biggest winner of the competition. On the evening of September 22, in the 125-year anniversary ceremony of IEEE, the sponsor held a solemn award ceremony, the diplomas and prizes were conferred upon winners by the Chairman of IEEE and the honored guests.

The thesis titled An intelligent Testing System Embedded with an Ant Colony Optimization Based Test Composition Method written by Hu Xiaoming won the second prize; the thesis titled Ant Colony Optimization Approach to Grid Workflow Scheduling Problem with Various QoS Requirements written by Chen Weineng won the third prize. The two thesis had been published already on IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics—Part C: Applications and Reviews.

"Microsoft Cup” IEEE Chinese Students Thesis Competition was jointly held by IEEE’s seven branches of China, IEEE Federation of China, the Representative Office of China, and Microsoft Research Asia. The competition was held nationally on the occasion of the 125-year anniversary of IEEE, and it was the first large scale academic exchange for Chinese students held by IEEE.
