SYSU Students Won the First Prize in the English Interpretation Contest for University Students of Guangdong

On the afternoon of March 27, the 3rd "Blue Dove Cup" English Interpretation Competition for university students of Guangdong Province took place at the Southern Medical University. 16 teams from major higher institutes of Guangdong Province competed in the final stage. The competing team of SYSU, consisting of 2007 undergraduates Zhang Sujun, Wang Shuchi and Zhang Haowen from the School of International Studies, performed well in the contest, winning the first place.

16 colleges and universities, including SYSU, South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, Shantou University, Guangdong Business School, Southern Medical University as well as Zhanjiang Normal University,had participated in the finals. The final contest was carried out in 3 parts,namely: English-Chinese Translation (4 minutes), Chinese-English Translation (4 minutes) and English-Chinese & Chinese-English Translation (4 minutes)。The content of the contest covered cultural life, tourism knowledge, commerce & trade and other related topics. Zhang Sujun, Wang Shuchi, Zhang Haowen gained high appraisal from the judges by solid English skills, skillful interpretation techniques and rich encyclopedic knowledge, winning the finals of the 3rd "Blue Dove Cup" English interpretation tournament among university students in Guangdong province by one stoke.

The source said that the School of International Studies has been paying close attention to the quality of teaching and striving to vigorously improve the students’ proficiency in English. Under the support of the university, the school has built a laboratory for simultaneous translation and set up simultaneous interpretation courses, providing a platform for the training of high-quality staff.
