Sun Yat-sen University Team of Innovative Research on West China Special Resources Won the Honor of National Advanced Group for Alleviating Poverty

On the morning of Nov. 29th, National Poverty Alleviation Meeting was held in Beijing. Hu Jingtao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of China, attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech. He stressed that poverty alleviation was a long-term and tough task, as well as a lofty and great undertaking. The whole party and the whole society should realize the importance and urgency of poverty alleviation. The consciousness and determination of poverty alleviation should be strengthened, while more determination, more strength, and more efficiency should be dedicated, so as to ensure the realization of “building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects” by the end of 2020. The key leaders of party and nation attended the meeting, including Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang. Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council delivered a speech in the meeting, which was hosted by Li Keqiang. The meeting was closed on the afternoon of Nov. 30th. Hui Yuliang, vice premier of State Council and the leader of poverty alleviation leading group in State Council, gave a summary speech.

The meeting presented rewards to the advanced groups and individuals who had made distinguished contributions in poverty alleviation from 2001-1020. A group of professors, associate professors, doctoral and postgraduate students from Academe of Food and Health Engineering of SYSU established scientific workstations in Tibet and Xinjiang Province. They worked hard and made breakthroughs in cultivating and spreading various special medicinal plants, which has contributed to the economic development of poor regions in west China. “Sun Yat-Sen University Team of Innovative Research on West China Special Resources” was nominated by State Council poverty alleviation leading group expert consultative committee. After the qualification preliminary examination, review, final judgment and publication, with the approval of State Council poverty alleviation leading group, the team was finally awarded Advanced Group. There were altogether 401 advanced groups and 299 advanced individuals received awards this time.
