On August 11, the “Kesen Kenen” 5th National University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving & Emission Reduction concluded at Xi’an Jiaotong University. Yuan Zhuoxin, Li Jinhui, Zhang Jian, Li Zirong, Zhou Nanjiang and Luo Guorong, the team of 2009 students from School of Engineering, directed by Professor Ding Jing and Associate Professor Lu Jianfeng of School of Engineering, took part in the contest with their work “Solar Energy Methane Carbon Dioxide Reforming Reactor”. They successfully entered the final contest and won the first prize.
The student team’s work innovatively uses molten salt phase change heat storage technology to store solar energy to ensure the stability of energy storage, thus resolving a crucial bottleneck problem in solar energy application. Therefore, it gained unanimous approval of the expert judges, and stood out from 141 works from 73 universities in the final contest and won the first prize. This is the best achievement of Sun Yat-sen University teams so far since we participated in the annual contest.
