Sun Yat-sen Postgraduates awarded “Outstanding Postgraduate Campus Media”, winning 6 Prizes Covering 5 Categories

Recently, the 2012 China Postgraduate Media Joint Conference and Postgraduate Media Development Forum in Commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of China Postgraduates was held in Hefei, Anhui Province. It was hosted by China Academic Degree & Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) and China Postgraduates magazine, and organized by University of Science and Technology of China. WANG Lisheng, Deputy Director of CDGDC and Executive Chief Editor of China Postgraduates, and ZHANG Shuai, Deputy Director of Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and General Office of Department of Postgraduate Education were present at the conference. Students in charge of Sun Yat-sen Postgraduates (Communication Station of China Postgraduates in Guangzhou), and instructors from SYSU Youth Association and Management Department of Graduate School of SYSU, together with 160 teachers and students from over 80 postgraduate media across the country attended the meeting.

In order to explore the evaluation criteria for postgraduate campus media, set good examples and promote the whole level of postgraduate campus media, a set of awards were voted and presented at the conference, including Outstanding Postgraduate Campus Media, Outstanding Interview, Outstanding Feature, Outstanding Column, Outstanding Special Issue, Outstanding Visual Design and Outstanding In-depth Reporting. After intense competitions, Sun Yat-sen Postgraduates won six prizes covering five categories, including Outstanding Postgraduate Campus Media, Outstanding Feature, Outstanding In-depth Reporting, Outstanding Visual Design and Outstanding Column Nomination (Two works received Outstanding Visual Design Prize). All the prizes reflected that the evaluation committee granted high recognition to SYSU’s postgraduate media work. In the section of media presentation and information exchange, Sun Yat-sen Postgraduates stood out from over 40 medias, impressed the teachers and students representatives deeply and won praises for its fresh and vibrant visual style and a reporting perspective close to students.

Founded in 1996, Sun Yat-sen Postgraduates is edited and published by SYSU Postgraduates Union under the guidance of SYSU Youth Association and the Department of Postgraduates Work of SYSU Party Committee. Its intended readers are postgraduates at school and accordingly, they take charge of all interview and editing work. Being academic, reflective and cultural, Sun Yat-sen Postgraduates has been sticking to its aim of “exchanging information, promoting learning, inspiring ideas and encouraging writing” since its founding. Now, it is distributed on four campuses of SYSU with a circulation of 18,000 per issue, becoming more influential and well-known. Based on the platform of Sun Yat-sen Postgraduates, the Communication Station of China Postgraduates in Guangzhou was officially established in 2005. Since its founding, the communication station has been actively taking on the responsibility of contacting postgraduate media of universities in Guangdong Province. By organizing and planning Guangdong University Postgraduate Media Joint Conference, it has strengthened the contacts effectively and promoted exchange and cooperation between universities in Guangdong.
