PhD Candidate Chao Jiang Wins IGU Urban Geography Commission Young Scholars Paper Competition Prize 2016

On August 15-20, 2016, the IGU Urban Geography Commission Meeting was held in East China Normal University, Shanghai. Over a hundred scholars from 81 universities and research institutes in 31 countries and regions attended this meeting.

Under the guidance of Prof. Lin Liu and Prof. Suhong Zhou, PhD candidate Chao Jiang from the School of Geography and Planning at Sun Yat-sen University submitted a full paper and gave an oral presentation entitled “Spatial Morphology and Configuration Patterns of Urban Crime Hotspots: The Case of Burglary in DP Peninsula, China”. After a blind review by 2 scholars, this paper was awarded the first prize of Young Scholars Paper Competition. 

The International Geographical Union (IGU) is an international, non-governmental, professional organization devoted to the development of the discipline of Geography. The IGU is affiliated to both the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC). The Urban Geography Commission is the most authoritative and the most influential academic organization in urban geography.
