SYSU students win awards in the 3rd National Graduate Contest on Smart-City Technology and Creative Design

The “Wisdom Cup” 3rd National Graduate Contest on Smart-City Technology and Creative Design was held in Peking University on August 26-27, 2016. The teams from Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) won 1 first prize, 4 second prizes and 2 third prizes. SYSU was awarded excellent organizing prize, and Professor Lin Liang received excellent tutor prize.
Seven works of five SYSU teams entered the final competition. In the “Wisdom Cup” Intelligent Technology Challenge, the team (consisting of Liu Lingbo, Xie Yuan, Chen Haojun and Wang Zhouxia, instructed by Prof. Lin Liang) won first prize in the face detection and recognition task; the team (consisting of Liu Xiao, Gu Yang, Li Chuanjun and Zhu Yunquan, instructed by Prof. Lai Jianhuang) won second prize in the abnormal behavior detection task and third prize in the audio big data compression task; the team (consisting of Feng Zhanxiang, Huang Rui, Wang Xiao and Wang Guangcong, instructed by Prof. Xie Xiaohua and Prof. Lai Jianhuang) won second prize in the face detection and recognition task and third prize in the vehicle precision retrieval task; the team (consisting of He Weixiong, Lu Ruizhi, Zhuo Jiaxuan and Guo Chunmei, instructed by Prof. Lai Jianhuang) won second prize in the cross-camera human identification task; and the team (consisting of Li Hanhui, instructed by Prof. Luo Xiaonan) won second prize in the cross-camera human identification task.

The competition is hosted by China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center and Children & Youth Science Center of China Association for Science and Technology, and co-hosted by National Educational Guidance Committee for the Graduate of Engineering, China Strategic Alliance of Smart City Industrial Technology Innovation and China Strategic Alliance of Audio Video Coding Standard (AVS) Industrial Technology Innovation. SYSU is an organizing unit, and Ms. Long Bo, Deputy Director of the Graduate School of SYSU, is a member of the organizing committee. About 5,000 postgraduate students of over 1,500 teams from 179 universities and research institutes registered for the competition. Through online evaluation by experts, 168 teams from 118 universities and research institutes entered the final competition, among which 44 teams participated in the “Wisdom Cup” Intelligent Technology Challenge.
