SYSU Swimming Team Makes Outstanding Achievements in the 18th National College Students Swimming Championship

From December 1st to 4th, the 18th National College Students Swimming Championship & the 30th Summer Universiade swimming trials was held in Wuhan. The competition attracted about 900 athletes and coaches from 61 universities and colleges including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, Southeast University and Beijing Sport University.

Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) sent 24 student athletes to participate in the championship under the guidance of the swimming coaches from the Department of Physical Education. SYSU swimming team finally won gold of the Men’s 50m butterfly, silver of the Women’s 200m butterfly, bronze of the Women’s 1500m freestyle, the Men’s 200m individual medley and the Men's 4 x 100 m freestyle relay in Division 1, and in Division 2, won gold of the Men’s 50m breaststroke. It also achieved good results in other 31 events. At the same time, SYSU men’s team finished in the fourth place in Division 1 and the women’s team, in the fifth place. Their total scores ranked fifth in Division 1 and eighth in Division 2. Besides, the Sportsmanship Award was also granted to them.

Competing with participants from renowned univerisites in these four days, SYSU swimming team members worked tenaciously and managed to continue the remarkable success story of the team.

It is known that a total of 84 events were held in the championship. Athletes were divided into Division 1, which was comprised of high level non-professional athletes, and Division 2, which consists of registered high level athletes.
