On topics of “Two cheers for made in China” and “The world is too much with us”, contestants competed over three aspects: a prepared speech, an impromptu speech and a question-and-answer session. SYSU student Chen Jiewei, the champion of Guangdong Regional, won second prize in the fierce competition.

The “21st Century Coca-Cola Cup” National English Speaking Competition was set up by China Daily in 1996. It has been an arena of international reputation for China's most elite English speakers, many of whom later became the country's top interpreters and renowned anchorpersons.
