SYSU Team Won Awards in ASIA VENTURE CHALLENGE 2016

The ASIA VENTURE CHALLENGE 2016, formerly ASIA MOOT CORP competition, was held in Bangkok, Thailand on March 7-9. Team Leadx with Branson HOU (15FI), Henriette HOU (15PA), Jason GUO (15PB), Lawrence LUO (15PA) and Leona LIU (15PA) representing MBA program of Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University, was invited to participate in the competition. Team Leadx won 60-Second Elevator Pitch and Divisional Runner-up Awards with their impressive performance.
"Millennials – Reigniting Entrepreneurship" is the theme for ASIA VENTURE CHALLENGE 2016, which attracted 12 teams from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, India and Malaysia. After three days’ fierce competition, including showcase, 60-second elevator pitch, divisional and final rounds, Team Taniix from Thammasat Business School, Thammasat University in Thailand won the first prize.
Leadx provides one-stop hereditary genetic testing services to address the problem that relatives of cancer patients will be subject to high risk of cancer. The hereditary genetic testing, which is done for each person once in a lifetime, will identify the risk for certain cancer, and based on the testing report suggestions of treatment will be proposed to mitigate the cancer risk. Leadx will start the business with testing on breast and ovarian cancer. More research and development on other cancers will be carried out as the business goes.
In the round of 60-Second Elevator Pitch, Leona LIU pitched on behalf of Leadx. Though Leona was the last pitcher as the result of drawing lots, she impressed the judges and all audience with clarity, logic as well as dynamism of her pitch. Moreover, her pitch successfully intrigued the potential investors and guests to visit the booth of Leadx to ask more information about the venture and the business.
In the divisional and play-off rounds, the team presented the business plan with passion and answered questions calmly. Their performance gained recognition by the judges, who willingly shared valuable perspectives and inspiring comments for starting up the business.
It is the fourteenth year that Lingnan MBA students participate in the competition. The competition offers not only a great opportunity for MBA students to practice their entrepreneurial abilities, to interact face-to-face with venture capitalists, but also a platform for students to carry out their ventures.
The ASIA VENTURE CHALLENGE, formerly ASIA MOOT CORP competition, and the prestigious qualifying competitions purport to stimulate and nourish the Entrepreneurial Spirit in MBAs and other graduate students around the world. In particular, these competitions seek to encourage entrepreneurially oriented graduate students to develop and grow new ventures based either on their own ideas.
