On the morning of June 27, 2026, Sun Yat-sen University celebrated the Class of 2026 with a graduation ceremony at the Guangzhou South Campus Gymnasium. The event was broadcast live, allowing alumni, friends, and family members to join the celebration.

The ceremony was presided over by Professor Xie Shi, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University, and attended by university leaders, including Liu Chenggong, Chair of the University Council, as well as faculty, guests, and alumni.

In his address, Liu Chenggong, Chair of the University Council, warmly congratulated the graduates and outlined three core expectations for the Class of 2026: dedicating themselves to national progress, overcoming challenges with resilience, and pursuing lifelong learning to shape the future.
He urged the graduates to integrate their personal growth into the broader fabric of social development. Emphasizing that the SYSU spirit of serving society remains timeless, Liu assured the graduates that the university would always be their home as they embark on new journeys.

During the ceremony, Professor Zhang Qi, Vice Chair of the University Council, announced that 864 students had been recognized as “Outstanding Graduates of Sun Yat-sen University in 2026.” Additionally, 51 doctoral dissertations (including practical achievements) and 98 master’s theses were recognized as outstanding works.

Undergraduate representative Zhang Yixuan, from the School of International Finance, shared his four-year journey driven by the courage to "give it a try". This exploratory mindset led him to minor in applied mathematics, win a top national competition prize, and secure postgraduate admission to Tsinghua University. Zhang also highlighted his engagement in grassroots research and community volunteer work, urging his peers to remain bold and socially responsible pioneers.

Luo Ying, a doctoral graduate representative from the School of Biomedical Engineering, centered her address on the vital synergy between foundational science and real-world application. Characterizing basic research as the “root” and clinical translation as the "branch", Luo noted that impactful innovation must extend beyond the laboratory to solve pressing clinical challenges. She urged fellow graduates to leverage their research to safeguard public health and serve society.

Alumni representative Gao Tianming, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, called on graduates to combine moral integrity with innovation. “Kindness directs innovation, and innovation empowers kindness,” Gao said, encouraging the Class of 2026 to step forward with both a visionary mind and a compassionate heart.

The celebration also featured vibrant, heartfelt farewell performances by faculty and students, adding a touch of joy and artistic flair to the event.

In a moving tribute, graduates presented flowers to faculty, parents, and frontline campus workers, expressing deep gratitude for the comprehensive support system that shaped their university journey.

The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt rendition of the university song, weaving together a tapestry of shared memories, deep gratitude, and enduring pride. As the final notes echoed through the gymnasium, the Class of 2026 stepped forward into their respective futures.

Happy Graduation to the SYSU Class of 2026!
