Sponsored by Youth League Committee of SYSU and the School of Foreign Language, On the afternoon of Dec.5th, the SYSU trials of the First “Higher Education Press Cup” National English 0ral Interpretation Competition was held on the South Campus On the afternoon of Dec.5^th.

After the preliminaries from Nov.19^th to 25^th, there were 28 students of SYSU entering the trials, who were competing with five students from South China Normal University, to vie for the chance to enter the semi-finals of South China.
In the competition, 33 contestants from different majors took turns performing, doing six-minute interpretation including Chinese-English and English-Chinese, covering topics as China's diplomacy, trade, cultural policies as well as current controversial issues. After the fierce competition, Ge Li, from 07 English of the School of Foreign Languages, Wang Yongzan, from 06 English-translation of the School of Translation and Interpretation, and Liu Hao, from 07 English-translation of the School of Translation and Interpretation won the first award. Zhang Qing, from 07 Japanese of the School of Foreign Languages and other five students won the second award, and Chen Qi, from 07 English-translation of the School of Translation and Interpretation and other 8 students won the third award. In addition, there were 12 students winning the award of excellence. The first award winners will represent SYSU to participate in the semi-final of South China held in the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies on Dec.12^th.
