For the celebration of the 85^th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) founded by Mr. Sun Yat-sen, the 1st SYSU Presidents Forum of Global Alumni Associations was held at SYSU’s Huai Shi Hall on the anniversary of SYSU on Nov.12, which provided a platform for communications, and putting into practice the SYSU spirit, and promoting the mutual development of SYSU and its alumni. More than 200 people were present in the event, including SYSU Party Secretary Zheng Dedao, SYSU President Huang Daren, council members of SYSU Alumni Association, representative presidents of 68 alumni associations from around the world, and University representatives.

In his acknowledgement, President Huang Daren recalled the important contributions SYSU alumni had made to the development of the University over the past years, and remarked that, SYSU has an inextricable connection with its alumni, and its growth is indispensable to alumni’s supports. The running of SYSU entails the active participation and support of its alumni. President Huang said subsequently that while alumni worked hard and repaid their alma mater, SYSU will also made every effort to keep on improving its research and education quality to repay its alumni and the society.

The forum took place on the morning and afternoon respectively, with the “Alumni and University Development” session held on the morning, and the “Building of Alumni Association and Alumni Development” session on the afternoon. SYSU Alumni from around the globe gathered together with leaders and teachers of the alma mater, and celebrated the 85th anniversary of SYSU. Alumni who were unable to attend the event extended their sincere blessings to the alma mater through video recorded by volunteers.

University leaders, alumni, presiding staff of different academic and administrative units gathered together at the 85th SYSU Anniversary Alumni Banquet, celebrating the 85th anniversary of the University in the evening.

The 1st SYSU President Forum of Global Alumni Associations kicked off the prelude to the alumni series activities of the 85th anniversary of SYSU founded by Mr. Sun Yat-sen, which included the unveiling ceremony of University motto stone donated by overseas alumni (Nov. 13), SYSU Alumni Day 2009(Nov. 14), the briefing conference in conjunction with the award ceremony of Li Bai Cup Tracing the Footprints of SYSU Alumni 2009(Nov. 14).
