Tracing the Footprints of Alumni, Passing on the Spirit of SYSU
On the afternoon of Nov.14
th, "Li Bai Cup 2009 ' Tracing the Footprints of SYSU Alumni' Briefing and Award Ceremony” took place in the Swasey Hall of South Campus, as part of events to celebrate the 85 anniversary of the founding of SYSU by Sun Yet-sen. A total of 300 people, including Huang Daren, president of SYSU, Zhu Lijun, Deputy Secretary of SYSU, delegations of the department of the Ministry Division, old alumni of 1940s, delegations of alumni whom had been interviewed by volunteer, and alumni representing the Libai Group, the title sponsor of this event, and volunteer delegation who had taken part in the activity in summer, participated in the event.
Huang Daren, president of SYSU, acknowledged after viewing the short footage of tracing the footprints of SYSU alumni in the year of 2009 that, the spirits of SYSU are imbedded in the stories occurred at SYSU. The act of SYSU students in tracing of their alumni’s footsteps is essentially an act of story searching of SYSU which has an indirect impact on the shaping of the university culture. As a token of appreciation for students who had appreciated and shaped the culture of SYSU through their heartwarming interviews with the alumni, Huang Daren, on the behalf of SYSU, presented a commemorative plaque to Chen Kaixuan, alumni of SYSU and chairman of Libai Group.
The activity, “Li Bai Cup 2009” Tracing the Footprints of SYSU Alumni was launched on Jul.12thof 2009, and is the sixth alumni searching event organized by the Alumni Association of SYSU. About 800 volunteers had visited over 1000 alumni home and abroad, and had successfully finished the perspective mission. Delegation of the volunteers concluded the search of 2009 as a “three mores and two firsts”: more students in participation, more alumni traced, and more accomplishment, the launch of the first thematic website and the first project in overseas tracing
During the briefing many awards were given including faculty organization award, best article award, best cinematography award, and best video award. Among them, School of Pharmaceutical Science, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, School of Government, and Department of Chinese Language and Literature got the first award of organizing.
With the launching of the three semesters policy through out campuses next year, “Tracing the Footprints of SYSU Alumni” will be officially included as part of applied course curriculum of SYSU.
